Read the interview I conducted with the Belgian painter Patrick Vanden Eynde during my internship at Everyday Gallery (Antwerp, Belgium).

At Any Given Moment - Patrick Vanden Eynde
Everyday Gallery 29.01.2022 - 16.03.2022

In Focus — 'Duckhunt' 2012
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Patrick Vanden Eynde has been busy establishing his practice since the early ’90s, which has led to some impressive (inter)national exhibitions - with 3 works in the collection of SMAK Ghent as the most recent example. This work, Duckhunt (2012), is the earliest painting in the selection of works for the exhibition 'At Any Given Moment' and was exhibited in Gallery Baton in Seoul, South Korea.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
At first sight, one might seek for similarities between the vivid green canvas and Vanden Eynde’s other work displayed in the exhibition. However, for this work too, Vanden Eynde applied a hyper-precise, figurative approach that provides you with enough information to make you wonder but not enough to fully grasp.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nevertheless, it is true that Vanden Eynde has adopted a unique technique for Duckhunt. The ducks, carefully selected in magazines from all over the world and the stones, originating from Japanese gardens, are the result of Vanden Eynde’s collage-oriented method. The deliberate decision to maintain certain schematic elements in the painting, unlike the technical discipline in the other works, also emphasizes the importance of process.
